ODEON - SWING - MUSIC - SERIES: DISCOGRAPHIE A 286.000er - SERIES

SPEZIALLISTE ODEON SWING This real JAZZ SERIES of anglo - american Hot und Sweet recordings is not a SWING - SERIES as one would expect in our days. The word "SWING" was just a fashionable new name for music that even a NAZI-censorship thought "to be something modern but not dangerous for German culture". Although JAZZ MUSIC NEVER WAS FORBIDDEN IN GERMANY, it was bad seen and commercials for it were "unwished". The only law that forbid any kind of foreign music production, was in 1935 by Mr. Hadamovsky for broadcast.

Changing the name of "HOT JAZZ" into harmless "CLASSIC SWING" was a kind of protection for record companies.

"ODEON SWING MUSIC SERIE" presented its last catalog for Europe in novemver 1939. The series did not continue, but all records were pressed in later editions and sold till the end of war.

ODEON 1912 - 1942 LUIS RUSSEL TRUMBAUER WITH ED LANG & BIX

There were different kinds of "ODEON SWING MUSIC SERIES" in Europe, but it is quite easy to make the difference from German pressings.

On the left a light red colored label A. 2300s record from ITALY, that shows a different grafic resolution and different fonts. The pressing material is much heavier than the German one, laminated around a paper sheet. Those records did not break as fast as German pressings but the sidenoise was much louder and dynamics of the recordings lost.

The SWISS pressing on the right has an excellent material, but the number series B. 35000s is identic with SWISS PARLOPHON. The fonts used on the label are very different from a Berliner edition, too.

ODEON SWING ITALY ODEON SWING SWITZERLAND

The records were sold in a nice special paper sleeve in typical dark red - violet colered printing. The design by Berlin´s artist KRUSE (aka ROBINSON) shows a skyscraper street view to give an association of SWING MUSIC and modern CITY LIFE. Some sleeves do not have the printing "SWING MUSIC" on them. The others show it in so called "GERMAN HANDWRITING".
